PIKEVILLE, Ky. – University of Pikeville freshman linebacker Trae Lofton was selected by USA Football to represent the United States at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Under-19 World Championships on July 7-16 in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

Lofton redshirted last season at UPIKE after a prep career at Mason County in Maysville, Ky. He will compete for playing time at linebacker for the Bears this upcoming season.

Forty-four high school and college players were picked to play on the U-19 team that will compete in an eight-nation tournament. The IFAF is composed of 64 nations spanning six continents with federations dedicated solely to American football.

The U.S. won the inaugural tournament in 2009, while Canada took the most recent crown in 2012.

Players and coaches will take part in training camp from June 25 to July 1 at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va., before departing for Kuwait on July 2nd. The Americans’ pool-play schedule is Mexico on July 8, Germany on July 11 and Japan on July 13. A gold-medal game between pool winners is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on July 16
