Morehead State Ready for First-Ever Meeting with UAB

MOREHEAD, Ky. — The Morehead State men’s basketball team continues non-conference action on Thursday when it visits Conference USA opponent UAB. Tip-off from Bartow Arena is set for 8 p.m. ET. It will be the first-ever meeting between the Eagles and Blazers.

Morehead State is 4-5 overall and 1-3 on the road. UAB is 2-5 overall and 2-2 at home. The Eagles are coming off Monday’s 63-59 home setback to East Tennessee State. The Blazers have lost three straight games to No. 22 UCLA, No. 16 Florida and No. 2 Wisconsin.

The game will televised by the American Sports Network and carried by a variety of affiliates throughout the country. Fans can check the PDF above for a channel in their local market. Doug Bell will call the TV play-by-play, while Chris Walker serves as the analyst. The contest will also be broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network. Chuck Mraz will provide the details on radio. A HOMECOMING FOR “D”
Morehead State’s associate head coach, Dylan Howard, played at UAB in the 1980s. He helped the Blazers to NCAA Tournament appearances in 1986 and 1987, plus an NIT Final Four berth in 1989. Howard, who later played in the Asian Professional Basketball Association, is in his 19th year of coaching at the collegiate level.

THE FIRST-EVER MEETING
Morehead State and UAB are meeting for the first time in men’s basketball. The Eagles have split two games against Conference USA opponents this season, with a 73-64 loss at Louisiana Tech and 77-68 victory at Marshall.

CLIMBING THE SCORING LIST
Senior Angelo Warner ranks third in the Ohio Valley Conference with 16.6 points per game. The guard has reached 10 points 67 times and 20 points on 15 occasions. He is up to 1,266 points as an Eagle, which ranks 18th in school history.

HANDING OUT THE ASSISTS
Senior Kareem Storey leads the Ohio Valley Conference with 6.0 assists per game. The guard also places third in the league with a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio. He has reached the five-assist plateau in 20 of 39 games at Morehead State.

CAREER HIGHS GALORE
Morehead State rolled to a 121-49 win over Kentucky Christian on Saturday at Johnson Arena. The Eagles established 30 career highs and led from start to finish.

A RECORD-SETTING DAY
The 72-point victory over Kentucky Christian was Morehead State’s largest in program history. The Eagles are in their 86th season with an intercollegiate team.

AN ACCOMPLISHED GROUP
Angelo Warner knocked down 9-of-10 from the field on Saturday to register 20 points in just 15 minutes. Junior Lyonell Gaines (19), senior Karam Mashour (14), freshman Miguel Dicent (14), junior Jared Ravenscraft (9) and junior Marcus Fuggins (5) all tallied career highs in scoring for Morehead State.

OTHER IMPRESSIVE NUMBERS
Morehead State rolled to advantages of 49-20 in rebounds, 33-16 in assists and 26-7 in steals against Kentucky Christian. The Eagles turned 36 turnovers in 67 points, while the Knights scored just 16 points off 17 miscues. MSU also registered a 72-20 upper hand in paint points and 49-8 cushion in fast-break points.

A GRUELING BEGINNING
Morehead State played six of its first seven contests away from Johnson Arena this year. The Eagles visited UNLV, Cincinnati, Louisiana Tech and Marshall during the stretch. MSU went 9-7 on the road last season and 2-2 at neutral sites.

PLAYING ON TV
Morehead State will play on television at least eight times in 2014-15.
