For those that were not in attendance, you missed a good high school basketball game that illustrated everything that is good about high school athletics. Bands playing, cheerleaders yelling and a gym filled to capacity made for an excellent night.

Before the game, Menifee County principal Brenda Warren read a moving tribute to Menifee County Judge-Executive J.D. Trimble, who succumbed to cancer on Tuesday. Mr. Trimble was a great ambassador for Menifee County and touched thousands of lives in his tenure as educator, coach/administrator and politician. The standing ovation that he received from the Menifee and Bath County fans in attendance was a tribute to his legacy and a well-deserved accolade for a life well-lived.

The game itself was a defensive battle with both teams struggling to score early. Bath County took an early 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, Menifee County battled back and the score was tied at 16 at the half. Menifee County scored the first basket of the second half to take their first lead of the game. Bath County would regain the lead and pushed the lead to nine at one point in the fourth quarter. Menifee County would cut the lead to three late in the fourth before Bath iced the game by hitting 6-6 free-throw attempts.

The ‘Cats were led by Sarah Price’s 17 points and 13 rebounds. Jasmine Flowers scored 10 points to reach double-figures, while Morgan Howard pulled down 10 rebounds. Sarah and Jasmine were joined on the All-tournament team by Taylor Rogers and the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, Haleigh Porter.

With the win, the LadyCats advance to the Touchstone Energy All A Classic State tournament to be held at the Frankfort Convention Center, where they will play the winner of the 5th Region (Caverna or Green County) on Wednesday, January 28th at 10:00 a.m. This marks the fifth time that the LadyCats have appeared in the All A state tournament. Previous trips were made in 1996, 1997, 2000 and 2001 and the program’s record in the tournament is 1-4.

Tickets for the event will go on sale at Bath County High School on Monday, January 26th. 350 advance tickets are available and are priced at $8.00. Tickets bought on the day of the game will be $10.00.

With school being dismissed on Wednesday, there should be a great crowd on hand to support our LadyCats! I hope to see you there!
