Raceland Avoids Upset with 36-25 Win over West Carter

The Raceland Rams avoided a shocker as they held on to beat the West Carter Comets 36-25 in their home opener Saturday night.

The story from Zack Klemme of the Daily Independent:

Lightning kept striking for West Carter, but not quite enough that the Comets could pull off a shocker against Raceland.

Though West Carter’s athletes punched a couple of holes in host Raceland’s vaunted defense, the Rams’ big boys awakened in time to largely stymie the Comets’ spread rushing attack in securing a 36-25 victory Saturday night.
The Rams (1-0) outgained the Comets (0-1) 413 yards to 164. That included a 331-105 spread in rushing yardage.

Raceland’s Carson Christian ran for 164 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries, quarterback Nathaniel Davidson rushed for 70 yards and a score and also threw for a TD to Cameron Webb, and Kane Snyder piled up 61 yards and hit paydirt once. Bailey Walker chipped in 48 rushing yards and a score.

“We thought we had a lot of guys that could make plays,” Raceland coach Michael Salmons said. “We didn’t throw the ball very well tonight, which is something we gotta get better at, but our offensive line as the game went along really asserted themselves, and our backs kept running hard.”
