Preview: Pike Central at Paintsville

Pike Central and Paintsville hit the gridiron Thursday night for a non-district matchup at Paintsville High School. Paintsville comes in with a perfect 6-0 record while Pike Central stands at 2-3 on the season.

This could be a high scoring affair between the Tigers and Hawks. Kentucky signee Kash Daniel leads a Tigers offense that averages 41.6 points, 295 yards rushing and 100 yards passing per game this season.

Defensively the Tigers are holding opponents to 13 points, 107 yards rushing and only 40 yards passing per game.

Sophomore signal caller Seth Conn leads a high scoring Pike Central offense that averages 36.4 points, 207 yards passing and 232.6 rushing yards per game.

Defensively Pike Central is allowing their opponents to score 31.8 points per game through five games this season.

Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops and defensive Coordinator D.J. Eliot will be in attendance to watch 2016 UK commit Kash Daniel.

I had a chance to talk to Pike Central Coach Shawn Thacker and Paintsville coach Joe Chirico about their matchup earlier this week.

Coach Thacker on Paintsville and Kash Daniel:

“Paintsville is one the best teams in the state with one of the best players in the state. Kash is a different type of player, he can hurt you in so many ways and not to mention Phelps and Trimble and that he has a great o-line in front of him. On defense they absolutely fly around and Kash is in on every play.”

Here is what Coach Chirico had to say about Coach Thacker and the Hawks:

“Pike central is a very explosive football team. Coach Thacker and his staff do a great job preparing their team every week.”
