Morehead State Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Transylvania

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Juniors Shay Steele and Aaliyah Wells led the way as the Morehead State women’s basketball team won handily, 110-47, in their exhibition opener on Thursday night at Johnson Arena. The Eagles began the game outscoring Transylvania 19-2 and never looked back.

“With our athleticism, we want to play an up-tempo offense and an up-tempo defense,” said head coach Greg Todd. “When we execute, we’ll take plenty of shots and force turnovers, just like we did tonight.”

Steele finished the game with a double-double, scoring 26 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, while going 12-for-16 from the floor. Wells ended the game with 20 points and four rebounds, shooting 9-for-11 from the field and connecting on two of her three shots from deep.

The Eagles walked into the halftime locker room after shooting 60 percent from the field, including 44 percent from behind the arc, en route to a 57-17 lead.

The second half saw more of the same, as the Eagles defense controlled the game throughout, forcing 23 turnovers.

The Eagles shot 56 percent from the field, 38 percent from three-point range, and 78 percent from the charity stripe. They dominated on the boards all night long, finishing with a 56-36 rebounding advantage.

Every player scored by games end, and junior Kay Kay Tate scored 15 points, while sophomore Eriel McKee added 13 points to go along with seven steals and six rebounds. Freshman guard Miranda Crockett dropped nine points to go along with her six rebounds and seven assists.

Morehead State opens the regular season on Friday, Nov. 13 at home against the Marshall Thundering Herd at 5:15 p.m. ET.
