Morehead State Softball’s Grossmann, Hutchins, McGuffey named Preseason All-OVC

MOREHEAD, Ky. – College Sports Madness announced its 2016 Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference softball teams Wednesday, and three Morehead State players were named. Sophomore pitcher Mackenzie Grossmann was tabbed to the first team, while senior infielder Dana Hutchins and junior outfielder Kayla McGuffey were named to the second team.

“This is a very deserving honor for these three young ladies,” said head coach David Williams. “Each of them had a strong 2015 season, and we look for more to come during the 2016 season. This is a great way to kick off our 2016 campaign.”

Grossmann started a team-high 21 games and made a team-high 29 overall appearances in her freshman campaign. She led the team with 12 wins, a 2.85 era, 137.1 innings pitched and 85 strikeouts, while finishing the season with a 12-8 record. She recorded 14 complete games, including a shutout on April 12 versus Belmont.



Hutchins hit .303 with 17 runs, 37 hits, three doubles, one triple, three home runs, 18 RBI, four stolen bases, and a team-high 21 sacrifices. Her three home runs were tied for second on the team, and she had seven multi-hit games, including two three-hit games.

McGuffey started all 46 games and led the team with a .353 average, 153 at-bats, 26 runs, 54 hits, and 15 stolen bases. She had 15 multi-hit games, including four three-hit games, and a four-hit game on Feb. 15 against Rhode Island.

The Eagles open the 2016 season on Feb. 12 in Cleveland at the CSU Dome Invitational. MSU faces host Cleveland State and Niagara on Feb. 12, and Bowling Green and Robert Morris on Feb. 13.
