Johns Creek Wins 2016 Pike County Middle School Softball Championship

Head Coach Missy Vaughn and the Johns Creek Bearcats captured the Pike County Middle School Softball Championship by defeating Elkhorn City 5-4 Saturday at Johns Creek.

Maddie Vaughn pitched a complete game for the Bearcats, allowing only four hits and striking out four Elkhorn batters in five innings of work.

Elkhorn scored two runs in the top of the first inning to jump ahead of Johns Creek 2-0.

Johns Creek battled back scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-2 lead.



Maddie Vaughn set the Cougars down in order in the second inning. MaKaylee Charles scored in the bottom of the second to give the Bearcats a 4-2 lead.

Elkhorn bounced back scoring two runs in the top of the third to tie the score 4-4.

Emily Baker scored in the bottom of the third to give Johns Creek a 5-4 lead.

Vaughn came out in the top of the fifth and set Elkhorn down in order to secure the Bearcats first County Championship in school history.

Johns Creek finished the regular season with a 10-4 record. The Bearcats defeated Mullins 4-3, Millard 19-1 and Elkhorn City 5-4 to capture the County Championship.
