Former EKU Star Corey Walden Signed to Celtics Final Training Camp Roster

BOSTON – The Boston Celtics have signed former Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball star Corey Walden to their final training camp roster, the team announced on Friday.

Walden was one of four players to ink deals with the Celtics on Friday, joining guard Levi Randolph and forwards Coty Clark and Malcom Miller.

The 6-2 guard from Daytona Beach, Florida made an impact defensively for the Celtics at the Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 3.5 steals in 16.5 minutes-per-game. He also averaged 2.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists-per-game.

Walden averaged 18.6 points-per-game as a senior in 2014-15 and was chosen as a Lou Henson All-American, a Lefty Driesell Defensive All-American, first team All-Ohio Valley Conference, OVC Defensive Player of the Year and first team All-District 19 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

Walden closed out his EKU career as one of the best in program history. In just three years as a Colonel, he scored 1,518 points, the eighth most-ever by a Colonel. The two-time OVC Defensive Player of the Year also broke the EKU career and single season records for steals. His 236 career steals broke Jamie Ross’ mark of 221 and is the fifth most-ever in OVC history. Walden finished the 2014-15 season with 99 steals, which also broke the record of 87 held by Ross and is the second-most ever in one season by an OVC player.

The Celtics are set to open training camp this Saturday, September 26.
