Five Morehead Football Players Named To Academic All-Pioneer League Teams

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Five Morehead State football athletes have been named to the 2015 Academic All-Pioneer Football League teams.



Senior linebacker Luke Keller and junior punter Pat DiSalvio were named to the first team, while senior wideout Tanner Napier, sophomore defensive lineman Colt Briggs and senior defensive lineman Ronald Cooper were on the second team. It marks the second straight First-Team Academic All-PFL accolade for DiSalvio, while Keller was on the second team in 2014. The total is the second highest for the Eagles since joining the league in 2001.

All PFL players with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average and sophomore or higher eligibility are eligible. Media relations personnel from each of the conference schools vote on the teams.

DiSalvio (Cincinnati, Ohio) sports a 3.83 GPA in biomedical sciences. He averaged 39.9 yards on 69 punts and landed 21 inside the 20-yard line this season. DiSalvio booted a long of 55 yards and had five punts of 50 or more yards.

Keller (Lucasville, Ohio), who has a 3.88 GPA in university studies, returned from a life-threatening medical condition to rank fourth on the team with 56 tackles in just six games. He ranked third on the team with nine tackles for loss and had three sacks. Keller was named PFL Defensive Player of the Week once.

Napier (Lexington, Ky.) owns a 3.30 GPA in sport management. He hauled in a career-best 56 catches for a career standard 760 yards and five touchdowns in 2015. Napier had a pair of 100-yard games, recording 137 against Dayton and 149 versus Marist while finding the end zone versus both those PFL foes.

Briggs (Wilmington, Ohio), who has earned a 3.70 GPA in biomedical sciences, led the Eagles with 10.5 tackles for loss and finished with 46 total stops. He had a career-best 3.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and 10 total tackles in a shutout against Davidson. Briggs was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II First-Team.

Cooper (Atlanta, Ga.) has a 3.35 GPA in engineering technology. He recorded 33 total stops in 2015, including 6.5 in the opponent backfield. He also led the team with six quarterback hurries, blocked a kick and recovered a fumble. Cooper finished his career with more than 30 tackles for loss.

Morehead State finished the season 7-4 overall with a 6-2 PFL mark, both program highs since 2007.
