EKU FOOTBALL OFF TO ITS BEST START SINCE 1990

RICHMOND, Ky. – Fresh off a 31-0 shutout over OVC foe Austin Peay this past Saturday, the Eastern Kentucky University football team moved up in the national polls to No. 16 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 17 in the Sports Network Media Poll.

Eastern (5-0, 2-0 OVC) is one of just seven remaining undefeated teams at the FCS level. The other undefeated teams are Charleston Southern (5-0), Coastal Carolina (6-0), Harvard (3-0), Illinois State (4-0), North Dakota State (5-0) and Yale (3-0).

The Colonels are also one of only two FCS team to post a perfect 4-0 record on the road.

Statistically, Eastern Kentucky ranks among the national leaders in a variety of categories including scoring defense (11.4 points per game – third), rushing defense (88.6 yards per game – fifth), scoring offense (36.2 ppg – 16th), rushing offense (260.6 ypg – 10th) and turnover margin (+6 – 12th).

The Colonels are 5-0 for the first time since 1990 and just the ninth time in program history.

Eastern Kentucky returns home for just its second home contest of the season this Saturday, Oct. 11 against Eastern Illinois. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
