EKU MEN’S GOLF PLACES THIRD, BEATS FOUR OVC TEAMS

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University’s men’s golf team placed third at the WKU Kenny Perry Invitational on Tuesday. The Colonels beat four other Ohio Valley Conference teams at the event.

EKU carded rounds of 293, 298 and 299 for a 54-hole total of 890, 26 shots over par. Lipscomb (879) captured the team title by eight shots over host Western Kentucky (887). The Colonels were just three shots behind the Hilltoppers.

The 12-team event was contested at The Club at Oldestone, a par-72, 7,100-yard course.

Senior Taylor Riggs led Eastern Kentucky and tied for seventh overall with a three-round total of 220. He opened play on Monday with back-to-back rounds of 1-over 73 before shooting a 2-over 74 on Tuesday.

Jared Brown, playing in his hometown, tied for 11th in the field of 66 golfers with a total of 222. The freshman shot a 1-under 71 during the first round before turning in a 5-over 77 in the second round. He rebounded with a 74 on Tuesday.

Patric Sundlof (225) tied for 21st and Travis Rose (227) tied for 28th. Rose shot Eastern’s best final round score, a 1-over 73.

OVC members finished third through seventh. Jacksonville State (892) was fourth, two shots behind EKU. Tennessee Tech (894) was fifth and Austin Peay (895) was sixth. Morehead State (899) placed seventh.

Eastern Kentucky closes out the fall portion of its schedule at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Monday.
