UT Martin racked up over 300 yards on the ground en route to a 62-38 win over the Murray State football team on Saturday afternoon at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray.

The Skyhawk offense racked up 595 of total offense in the game with 193 passing yards and 425yards on the grounds. Abou Toure led the ground-and-pound for UTM with 235 yards on 29 carries for 3 touchdowns. The Racers meanwhile tossed the ball for 425 yards, but only rushed for 59, leading to 484 yards of total offense.

The game began on the wrong foot for Murray State (3-6, 1-4 OVC) when Zach Bogard’s punt got caught in the wind on the opening drive and went just 20 yards. UT Martin (5-5, 4-3 OVC) needed just two plays to score, finishing off the short drive with a five yard keeper from quarterback Jarod Neal. In the next drive, KD Humphries tossed an interception that was returned 32 yards for a touchdown by Nick Dance.

Those two scores proved to be the difference, as MSU chased UT Martin for the rest of the game but could never get closer than 14 points. Not helping matters was a second pick-6 by Humphires in the fourth quarter to make the score 59-31 and effectively putting the game out of reach for the Racers.

Despite the two interceptions for touchdowns, Humphries had a good day under center completing 37 of 60 passes for a career-high 425 yards and five touchdowns to four different receivers. The game marks his second 400-plus yard passing game of the season and his second 5-plus touchdown game.

Janawski Davis led the Murray State receiving corps with seven catches for 133 yards and a touchdown, marking his second 100-plus receiving yards game of the game. Nevar Griffin also racked up 100-plus yards for the second time this season with 115 yards on seven receptions and two touchdowns. Pokey Harris finished the day with 114 all-purpose yards with 23 rushing yards, 18 receiving yards and 73 yards on kickoff returns.

DeQuinten Spraggins finished the afternoon with a game-high 16 tackles including eight solo and MSU’s only interception of the game. Anthony Hayes and D’Montre Wade followed with 12, Travis Taylor had 11, while Jonathan Jackson rounded out the double-digit tacklers for the Racers with 10 and a sack for a loss of two.

The Racers will now hit the road for their last two road games of the season. On Saturday, MSU will make its longest OVC trip of the season so far to face the Panthers of Eastern Illinois. Kick-off at O’Brien Stadium in Charleston is scheduled for 1 p.m.
