COLONELS LOOK TO END SLIDE AT IUPUI SATURDAY

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Eastern Kentucky University’s men’s basketball team will try to put an end to a three-game losing streak when the Colonels play at IUPUI on Saturday in Indianapolis. The game will air live on ESPN3 beginning at 1 p.m.

Eastern Kentucky (4-3) is coming off an 82-49 loss at No. 1 Kentucky. The Colonels have fallen to BYU, Valparaiso and UK in their last three games. They have lost three straight for the first time since November 2011.

Despite shooting just 26 percent, EKU finished with the fourth most points scored this season against the top ranked defense in the nation. Eastern had more points against UK than Providence (38) and Kansas (40).

Denzel Richardson led the Colonels, and tied for the game-high, with 19 points. He made 8-of-11 from the field and all three of his three-point attempts. Corey Walden finished with 12 points and four rebounds. Timmy Knipp had six points and six rebounds.

Eastern has had six different leading scorers in each of its last six games – Jaylen Babb-Harrison, Eric Stutz, Walden, Ja’Mill Powell, Knipp and Richardson.

Eastern Kentucky leads the nation in turnover margin (+13.9). IUPUI averages 17.8 turnovers per game. The Colonels are second in the nation with an average of 12.3 steals per game. IUPUI has allowed its opponents to average 9.0 steals per contest.

EKU has attempted 30 or more three-pointers in four of its last five games.

IUPUI is 2-6 this season and riding a four-game losing streak, three of which have been road losses. The Jaguars have wins at Milwaukee and at home in overtime against Ball State. IUPUI is shooting 40.5 percent from the field this season and averaging just 61.5 points per game. The Jaguars are allowing 73.4 points.

Marcellus Barksdale, a 6-foot-5 junior guard from Lexington, Kentucky leads the team in scoring (10.0 ppg), and is second in rebounding (4.3) and assists (2.4). DavRon Williams, a 6-foot-7, 225-pound senior forward contributes a team-best 6.8 rebounds per game to go along with 7.1 points per contest.

The Jaguars lost 66-43 at Xavier on Tuesday. Barksdale had 10 points, three rebounds and two steals. Williams had six points and a game-high eight rebounds. IUPUI shot 35 percent from the field, made just 1-of-14 three-point attempts and turned the ball over 22 times. Xavier shot 54 percent and had 14 steals.
