UPIKE Men’s Basketball Leads the Pack in MSC Coaches’ Poll

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — For the second straight season, the University of Pikeville men’s basketball team was picked to win the Mid-South Conference championship, according to a preseason poll of the league’s coaches, conference officials announced on Wednesday.

UPIKE is coming off back-to-back MSC regular-season titles and has advanced to the NAIA National Tournament in four of the past five seasons.

Last season’s team finished 27-5 overall and 12-4 in the MSC, allowing it to share the conference championship with Campbellsville which had an identical record.

The Bears racked up 60 voting points in the poll, including four of the nine available first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

Georgetown is a close second on the preseason list, coming in with 59 points and four first-place nods as well. Campbellsville is third with 49 points and the other leading tally.

Rounding out the poll is Cumberlands in fourth, Lindsey Wilson fifth, Life sixth, Cumberland (Tenn.) seventh, Shawnee State eighth and St. Catharine closing out the list in ninth place.

UPIKE opens the 2015-16 season at 7 p.m. ET on Monday, hosting Central Pennsylvania at the East Ky. Expo Center. The NAIA Preseason Top 25 is scheduled to be released the next day on Oct. 27.
