No. 2 UPIKE Men’s Basketball Overpowers Ohio-Eastern 113-45

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Michael Lewis and Uzonna Akazi delivered a pair of double-doubles off the bench to lead the second-ranked University of Pikeville men’s basketball team past Ohio-Eastern 113-45 on Saturday night at the East Ky. Expo Center.

Lewis posted 18 points and 18 rebounds, while Akazi, playing in his first game for the Bears, finished with 17 points and 12 boards to lead seven Bears who finished in double figures scoring. Macari Brooks tallied 15 points, Jackson Hussey had 12, Marshall Bennett tallied 11 and Dmitri Reaves and Christian Leach both finished with 10.

The Bears (2-0) shot 58.8 percent from the field and 33.3 percent (7-21) from beyond the arc as the Panthers connected on just 27.9 percent of their shots and were outrebounded 67-16.

Cody Schau was the only Ohio-Eastern player to reach double figures scoring with 16 points on 7-of-20 shooting from the field.

It took UPIKE less than seven minutes to post a lead of double-digits that it would not relinquish at 20-10. The deficit grew to 20 five minutes later on a put back by Colt Chapman and later reached as high as 39 points in the first half at the halftime score of 60-21.

The Panthers scored the first two points of the second half, but UPIKE responded with a fury, going on a 20-0 run ending with a layup by Akazi. Things didn’t get much better for Ohio-Eastern after that as it went on to trails by as many as 73 points.

UPIKE will be back on the court at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, hosting Montreat (N.C.) at the East Ky. Expo Center.
